Cat’s Eye Serpentine Earrings

One of a kind earrings with trillion Sphene (5mm) and yellow diamonds (12- 1.3mm weigh .12ct) with fluorescent Cat’s Eye Serpentine drops. Each earring weighs 9.5 grams. 2 1/2” x 1/2”

Sphene- has one of the highest dispersions of any mineral; the term dispersion refers to a mineral’s ability to break white light into spectral colors.
The dispersion of sphene is 0.051. A diamond’s dispersion, by comparison, is 0.044. It’s also pleochroic, showing more than one color depending on the angle from which you view it; sphene’s transparent specimens are notable for their trichroism, showing three different colors. The primary sources of sphene are Canada, Madagascar and Mexico.

Gardening is a passion for me and I come from a long line of gardeners on my mother’s side. So it was natural I bring nature to my pieces. Often I abstract the imagery and a pattern will become the band of a ring or the texture on a pendant. My fascination with historical jewelry finds its way into my pieces as well.
I hand carve my tiny pieces out of wax and cast them in the lost wax casting process. They are then hand constructed with various metals and unusual stones.
